How does blue light affect your wakefulness?
Blue light which is emitted by high efficiency light bulbs, as well as digital devices including smart phones, tablets and computers— delays release of the sleep hormone melatonin, because of its short wavelength nature.
In 16 healthy adults, fatigue, alertness, performance, attention spans, response and reaction times were measured. These were increased with effect of blue light in daytime with decrease in feeling of drowsiness .
Thus blue light is advantageous in removing daytime sleepiness.
