It is an involuntary muscle contraction causing rhythmic shaky movement in any part of the body. Tremors can cause difficulty in performing daily life activities like writing, brushing teeth, typing etc, greatly influencing patients life and leading to significant disability. The Parsi community has the highest prevalence of tremors in India of about 1663 per 100000 people. Rural populations are less affected as compared to the urban populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Types of tremors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Types of Tremors:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Resting tremors occur when muscles are relaxed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Action tremors occur with voluntary contraction&nbsp; of muscles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tremors can further be classified as postural (e.g., when hands are in outstretched position), isometric (e.g., carrying a suitcase for a long time), and kinetic tremor (e.g., while eating, writing etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tremor Causes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on their root cause, tremors are classified as as <em>essential tremor<\/em>, <em>parkinsonian tremor<\/em>, <em>dystonic tremor<\/em>, <em>psychogenic tremor<\/em>, <em>cerebellar tremor<\/em>, <em>orthostatic tremor<\/em> etc. Each of these tremors have their respective frequency and amplitude. Regions of the brain such as the basal ganglia and the cerebellum that control movement have been implicated in Tremors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Symptoms of Tremors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Unusual shaking in body, usually hands<\/li><li>Shaky voice<\/li><li>Facing problem in writing or holding objects<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Treatment for Tremors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While there is no definitive treatment, some medications and treatments are useful in the management of symptoms. Beta blockers and antiseizure medicines are prescribed to some people with tremors. When medication is ineffective, deep brain stimulation is used. A study published in 2019 in <em>Parkinsonism &amp; related disorders <\/em>found that repetitive transcranial stimulation in the cerebellar region could be used as treatment for tremors. Recent studies have found that Botulin toxin A is also effective to treat tremors. Moreover physiotherapists have found that physical therapy and exercise is essential in the treatment of tremors as it helps to increase muscle control, strength and coordination. Relaxation and focus also helps to reduce the intensity of the tremor and minimize damage on onset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In conclusion, tremor is the most common movement disorder without a definitive cure, causing serious distress and impairment.
